Columboola is located 16 km east of Miles on the Western Darling Downs, approximately 330 km west of Brisbane. It is part of the Murray Darling-Basin and surrounding vegetation includes brigalow, cypress pine and semi-arid forests.
What does the Columboola Environmental Education Centre provide?
Columboola Environmental Education Centre offers educational programs for students from Pre-School to Year 12. Camps can be arranged around a variety of themes, including Landcare, Pioneers/history, Natural Environment, Farming, Comparative Catchments and Leadership/team building. Popular activities offered include canoeing, orienteering, low ropes course, challenge activities, astronomy, bush dancing and archery; to name but a few.
Visiting schools are accommodated in imported, waterproof, canvas dome tents during their stay. Columboola EEC has 18 tents that can sleep approximately 60 people. Foam mattresses are provided for extra comfort. A mobile home is available to teachers, bus drivers and caterers.
Columboola is a converted two-classroom school. It has a kitchen and dining area under the school rooms, two shade areas, a modern amenities block, astronomy domes, low ropes course, propagation area and playing field. One classroom is carpeted and houses a TV and video unit, which can be utilised for a wide variety of activities. A commercial sound system is available for bush dancing, concerts and other activities.
