Where is the Jacobs Well Environmental Education Centre?
The Jacobs Well Environmental Education Centre (JWEEC) is situated approximately 3-5 km from the shores of southern Moreton Bay, and approximately 22 km east of Beenleigh and the Pacific Motorway.
JWEEC has close access to the tidal and marine waters and islands of southern Moreton Bay including South Stradbroke Island. Other local natural environments used include eucalypt forests, mangroves and salt marshes, local waterways and freshwater ponds.
What does the Jacobs Well Environmental Education Centre provide?
JWEEC offers programs across all education sectors from P —12, as well as tertiary, Special School and some TAFE. All P-12 programs are curriculum-based and cover a wide range of topics and themes that relate to a number of Key Learning Areas.
School visits can be either for a day or for extended camps. The types of activities conducted during the visit are developed by centre teachers, being determined by the visiting teacher 's current curriculum focus. Program resource materials are available to support classroom teaching strategies pre-and post-visit.
JWEEC is a comfortable all —weather facility with cabin accommodation for 40 students, teachers and supporting adults, a kitchen and eating room (with catering available if required), a classroom, modern amenities and learnscaped grounds. To support programs, JWEEC has a 12 m aluminium catamaran, outfitted as a floating classroom, three smaller vessels, canoes, a mini-bus and a plant nursery.
