Distance Education ICT Subsidy Scheme

Purpose

To provide funding via the Schools of Distance Education, to assist families with offsetting the cost of computer equipment and internet access for students.

Expenditure Guidelines

Schools of Distance Education must provide funding to eligible families and are required to maintain records of grants allocations.

Schools will be requested to provide details of unexpended ICT Subsidy monies and funds will be recouped accordingly.

There is no formal acquittal process.

Eligibility

Schools of Distance Education will administer funds to eligible families with students enrolled at a School of Distance Education for a minimum of six months continuous enrolment.

Hardware and Computer software subsidies are available to families who are identified as belonging to geographically isolated or medical categories.

Internet Subsidies are available to families who are identified as belonging to the geographically isolated category.

Principals will be requested in March each year to provide the total amount of unexpended ICT Subsidy funding for the previous calendar year. This will be recouped in the April GAPs payment run.

Allocation of Funds

Computer Hardware Subsidy: An annual payment of $250 to eligible families to assist with purchasing, replacing or upgrading computer hardware.

Computer Software Subsidy: A licence for the Microsoft Office Suite for Macintosh and Windows computers and the Microsoft Windows operating system are provided free of charge to eligible families ($25 per licence).

Broadband Internet Subsidy: An annual payment to eligible families to assist with provision of broadband internet access. Payments to each family are capped at $500 per annum, with an additional $100 per annum for families with three or more students.

A proforma template is emailed to the Principals of the seven Schools of Distance Education to be completed and returned to central office.

Schools of Distance Education will identify the number of families eligible for the hardware, software and internet categories.
