The Youth Support Coordinator Initiative (YSCI) is focused on supporting retention and attainment of young people in Years 10 to 12 who have disengaged, or who are at risk of disengaging from education. The initiative enhances opportunities for further education and sustainable future employment.
Funding is allocated on a three year basis to allow continuity in service delivery and staff retention. Schools will receive fixed funding for the three year period. Eligibility and funding will be reviewed triennially.
Eligible schools are allocated a Youth Support Coordinator full-time equivalent (FTE) allocation based on the eligibility criteria listed above. Eligible schools receive an FTE allocation directly to purchase Youth Support Coordinator Initiative (YSCI) services.
Discretionary funds of $8000 per one FTE YSCI allocation are provided annually to schools for the purchase of goods and services for the direct benefit of students accessing a YSCI service.
Schools may choose to convert their FTE allocation to cash to purchase services/programs. Schools will need to use the existing HR process for conversion to TRS/cash by contacting their Regional Youth Support Coordinator to discuss relevant procedures and timeframes for making any changes.
