To provide support to participating schools that will enable them to quickly implement a sustainable plan to lift school attendance, classroom engagement and educational achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. To access funding, participating schools must complete and submit their Next Steps Plan and budget (estimated), to deliver it. The purpose of the Next Steps Plan is to outline planned activity over the next two years to improve the achievement, attendance and engagement outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Unless approved, participating schools must spend their funding according to the agreed strategies and estimated costs outlined in their Next Steps Plans.
There is an acquittal process.

Funds from the Commonwealth are allocated through the Stronger Smarter Institute (the Initiative Provider) to the Department. The Department is then required to allocate the funds to participating schools.
Each participating school will receive a nominal allocation based on a base amount of up to $200,000 over two years; plus a per capita amount based on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student enrolments. Some outer-provincial and remote schools may also be eligible for a smaller additional loading based on geo-location.
