Grant funds are provided from the Department of Health and Ageing to implement initiatives to promote healthy living through increased physical activity and healthier eating at the 'grassroots' level in Australian communities. The programs are to benefit the whole community including at-risk target groups (children, adolescents, young women, families in lower socio-economic and rural/remote areas and Indigenous communities).
Schools are responsible for expending the grant funds in accordance with the Commonwealth Government's guidelines as outlined in the project approval.
The Commonwealth requires reporting and acquittal of funding received. Grant revenue must be recorded against cost centre YNCO.
Schools are not required to acquit these funds in the department's annual reporting process.
The Active Australia Community and Schools Grants Program was initiated in 2006 as a four-year program. The program has been shortened and will finish in June 2010.
