Purpose

This grant enables literacy and/or numeracy support to be provided to those students in primary schools whose achievement fell below national minimum standards in reading and number (Band 1 for Year 3 students and Bands 1-3 for Year 5).

Allocation of funds

The allocation of available funds is based on the number of Year 3 and 5 students who were below national minimum standards in reading and/or number (Band 1 for Year 3 students and Bands 1-3 for Year 5). The available funds are allocated based on groups of 3 students. Each targeted student is funded for 1 year.

A reserve is provided to those schools that do not have students below the minimum standard to ensure schools have funds to assist any new students who require additional support. In schools where there are no new students and no students below the national minimum standards, schools use the Years 3, 5 Intensive Teaching Grant reserve to support their lowest achievers.

Current rates

In Term 4 2009, schools receive 75% of their allocation for 2010.

In Term 3, 2010, schools received the final 25% of their allocation for 2010.

In Term 4, 2010 schools receive 100% of their 2011 allocation.
