Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care Funding Program (YNSS)

Purpose

Funds are provided to schools to engage, through a community organisation, the services of a chaplain, pastoral care coordinator, youth worker, youth support coordinator or other type of support worker to provide direct support to vulnerable students.

Expenditure guidelines

Grants provided under this program are targeted to identified schools that have enrolments of 100 or more students as at February 2007 from areas of low socio-economic backgrounds.

School Principals are responsible for the expenditure of the funding provided under the State Government Chaplaincy/Pastoral Care Funding Program, in accordance with the program guidelines.

Schools must not directly employ the support worker, and must engage the services of the support worker through a non-government organisation.

A short form annual acquittal is included in the program guidelines, which asks schools to nominate what type of support worker was engaged and the types of programs implemented by that support worker using the grant funds.

The SMS cost centre code is YNSS.

Duration of program

This funding program runs until 2013.

Policy reference

Schools electing to engage a chaplain must do so in accordance with policy SCM-PR-012: Chaplaincy Services in Queensland State Schools.

This policy identifies accountabilities and procedures for principals of state schools, who in consultation with local communities and with the support of the Parents and Citizens' Association, implement chaplaincy services as a community initiative; it includes processes for developing and implementing a school's chaplaincy program and accompanying documentation including procedure for appointing a paid or volunteer chaplain to deliver a program of chaplaincy services.
