Purpose

Support the Queensland Environmentally Sustainable Schools Initiative (QESSI) through:

• grants to QESSI regional hubs
• state-wide coordination of environmental education for sustainability.

Expenditure guidelines

QESSI regional hubs are responsible for dispensing the funds in accordance with the actions as listed in their annual Regional Action Plan for Sustainability (RAPS).

This is a targeted grant, the SMS cost centre code is YNSQ.

Annual acquittal of expenditure is required for each QESSI hub by last day of the school year. Acquittal note needs to highlight:

• total income, including any extra funds for the QESSI project
• global expenditure areas e.g. TRS, Workshops expenses, travel etc.
• surplus/deficit with explanatory notes.

Eligibility

QESSI regional hubs are selected through an expression of interest process. QESSI hubs can be an outdoor and environmental education centre, state school, non-state school, government agency or non-government organisations.

Form of assistance

Targeted Grants direct to school: QESSI regional hubs (see Eligibility above)

Payment details

Payments to QESSI Regional Hubs are variable and depend on the amount and availability of funding for distribution.

However the current project that we can schedule funding is the EnergyWise project. The funding dispersed to the QESSI regional hubs for 2009 for this project will be as follows.

Allocation of funds

Allocation of funds is based on:

• completion of Regional Action Plan for Sustainability (RAPS)
• capacity to deliver sustainability outcomes in schools through the implementation of the RAPS
• establishment of a Regional Sustainability committee or equivalent to support the implementation of the RAPS.
