Refugee Program funding provides support to schools with refugee students, especially those with very complex learning, social and psychological needs.

Schools with refugee students may receive funds depending upon the regional distribution process.
Formula-generated allocations - notional allocations to regions and subsequent region-advised grant disbursements to schools (including Independent Public Schools).

Regions are allocated funds based on the number of "weighted" refugees per Region to fit within a fixed budget allocation. The weightings are calculated on the number of refugees classified as being either "New Arrivals"; "1st year (not new arrivals)"; "2nd year" and "3rd year".Regions distribute these funds to schools based on identified need.
