Smart Moves - Physical Activity Programs in Queensland State Schools aims to increase student participation in physical activity and to improve the quality of that activity. As part of Smart Moves and as part of active learning environments, schools are encouraged to integrate physical activity with the key learning areas.
These Active Classrooms examples:
The DVD demonstrates how simple it is to embed physical activity with mathematics. Forest Lake State School classroom teachers have incorporated physical activity with maths concepts to excite students and focus their learning. Various year levels demonstrate physical activity within mathematics lessons based on the schools updated mathematics program which includes the Mathematics Essential Learnings and Standards (QSA, 2007) supported through 'First Steps in Mathematics' professional development.
It is recommended that all sections be viewed to gain an appreciation of the engagement of teachers and students across the school from prep to Year 7. For specific ideas for each year level, the DVD has been sectioned for easy access.
This resource is accompanied by three mathematics units of work:
Each mathematics unit is comprised of an assessment task plan, assessment task and accompanying standards descriptors.
