| Knowledge | Students will know: - Physical, emotional, mental and social changes associated with puberty
- Long and short term, positive and negative consequences of actions / behaviours on health
- How factors (such as beliefs, family, peers, economy, environment, media) influence their own and others' health choices and in turn health status
- How social factors, such as unemployment, cause disadvantage and have a negative impact on their own and others' health and wellbeing
- Actions that can be taken to support the promotion of health/prevention of illness for themselves and others
- Procedures and actions to prevent harm/injury
- How to initiate and sustain positive relationships and how to communicate assertively in pressure situations

| Skills | Students will be able to: - Improve performance and make the most of abilities in physical activity through goal setting, personal reinforcement and working with others for feedback and support
- Respond to challenging or risky situations with personal or group actions, behaviours or strategies to protect health and safety
- Report accurately and set goals to improve their own strengths and weaknesses in relation to health-related behaviours
- Communicate effectively with people in less familiar contexts
- Demonstrate relationship and group management skills to support self and others

| Example Student Activities | - Establish criteria to evaluate selection of products, services and programs that meet their health needs
- Analyse personal food consumption and possible changes for dietary improvements
- Explore the issues associated with changes (such as puberty and transition to secondary school) and the impact of these on lifestyle
- Develop skills for coping with personal feelings and changes in their lives
- Practise assertive behaviours to deal with harassment and peer pressure
- Further develop communication, listening and cooperative skills to enhance relationships
- Establish goals, values and methods of stress management
- Examine consequences of drug and alcohol misuse, risk taking, communicable diseases, exercising and food behaviours
