Foundations for Success provides educators with a framework for planning, implementing and reflecting on a quality early learning program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children (31/2 - 41/2 years) in the year before Prep in Queensland. Research has established the importance of the early years in laying the foundation for children's success in schooling and in later life.
A quality early learning program in Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities:
The Division of Indigenous Education and Training Futures has developed a DVD to support educators delivering Foundations for Success early learning programs in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities. The DVD shows programs in action in six diverse sites: Aurukun, Cherbourg, Yarrabah, Badu Island, Boigu Island and Saibai Island. This professional development resource has been distributed to educators, key stakeholders and resource centres.
Early childhood educators are encouraged to use the Foundations for Success guidelines and DVD when developing their learning programs. Principals and Heads of Campus will find the DVD useful when discussing early learning with their local communities.
