The Klebawan Program is for Year 4, 5 and 6 Indigenous students who have been identified as having high learning potential. Identified students participate in a program that targets cognitive efficiency, metacognitive skill development, academic self-belief and other issues that may make them reluctant to engage in academic pursuits. Identified children stay in the program until they reach Year 6, then they are invited to participate as Klebawan leaders.
The program is unashamedly academic. The children learn to love academic learning and to realise who they are intellectually. Two camps are held each year; the camps develop literacy, numeracy and computer skills in a rigorous, challenging fun environment. Camps are held at Mudjimba on the Sunshine Coast.
The program involves Indigenous community and teachers. Teachers are trained, to work with your child and bring out their best. Children are paired with Indigenous mentors who have achieved academic success and share their experiences and learning journey.
