Access denied messages

Occasionally when a site is requested on Education Queensland's network, a message appears saying that the site is blocked or that access is denied. There are two distinct messages.

Blocked sites access denied message

When a site is blocked systematically, i.e. by Smart Filter Bess Edition, you will see the following message:

Content Filtering Block Message

This message will appear under two conditions:

If staff/students at a school wish an Internet site that displays this message to be made available to them they should discuss this with their MIS Administrator. The MIS Administrator should check their school's filter list to see if it is blocked at the local level. If so, it can easily be removed by them.

Non-blocked sites access denied message

The ACCESS DENIED error message screen is slightly different and can appear due to a number of reasons. This message does not mean the site is blocked. If this message is shown, the school's MIS Administrator should be contacted. If it is not a matter that can be easily solved at the school level the MIS Administrator should contact the MIS Help Desk: phone 1300 656411

Sometimes sites are inadvertently blocked by the filtering software. In this instance the MIS Administrator should contact the central MIS Filtering Officer: email: imsservicecentre@deta.qld.gov.au

Schools should have a policy in place that ensures all staff and students know what to do if they inadvertently hit an inappropriate site.

School Internet access should follow the guidelines given in ICT-PR-004: Using the Department's Corporate ICT Network.
