Web and Internet Access Service

The Web and Internet Access Service (WIAS) provides state schools with a value-for-money and comprehensive managed Internet service (MIS), including:

access to the Internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week
help desk support five days a week
account management of student and teacher emails
portable email addresses
content filtering of websites and emails (including Spam mail)
network connections to schools
network file storage for students and teachers

WIAS is managed and funded centrally. Schools pay an annual WIAS contribution to help fund the overall cost of providing WIAS services. The contribution is deducted from each school 's ICT Annual Grant, which is paid in December each year, before the grant is deposited into school accounts. The contribution deducted from the December 2009 grant covers the period from July 2009 to June 2010.

Computer viruses are a constant source of concern. They have the potential to cause extensive disruption that interferes with student learning activities and diverts the attention of staff as they restore systems and overcome virus attacks. Your WIAS contribution is helping fund anti-virus software that works.
