1: What is the start and end date of the Premier's Reading Challenge?

A: Reading starts on Monday 11 May 2009 and concludes on Friday 21 August 2009. This is a period of 15 weeks.

3. Is it possible to register for the Premier's Reading Challenge after registration closes on Friday 29 May 2009?

A: No. All registrations for the Premier's Reading Challenge 2009 must to be completed on-line between Friday 24 April 2009 and Friday 29 May 2009. Unless, you are registering as an individual reader or home-educated student, in which case you must register online between Monday 27 April 2009 to Friday 29 May 2009. If you are registering a home educated participant and are not comfortable in registering on-line, please register with the Home Education Unit prior to Friday 29 May 2009 by contacting them via email at homeeducation@deta.qld.gov.au or by telephone 07 3405 3916 or 1800 677 176 (outside Brisbane).

4. I am a School Coordinator, do I need to enter every student name by Friday 29 May 2009?

A: No, just as long as your school is registered, this is fine.

5. How many books does my child have to read to complete the Challenge?

A: Each child who is between Prep to Year 2 must read or experience 20 books. Each child from Year 3 to Year 7 is required to read 20 books to complete the Challenge. Only children who read 20 books and meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement from the Premier.

6. Is there an award for students who read more than 20 books?

A: No. All students who read 20 books will receive a signed certificate from the Premier. This also includes students who read more than 20 books. No additional individual student prizes are available. However, feel free to download the certificate template (available at the end of the challenge) to reward participants further.

7. My child's school is not participating in the Premier's Reading Challenge, but my child would still like to be a part of it. Can my child still be part of the Challenge?

A: Yes. Your child can register as an individual reader. On-line registration opens on Monday 27 April 2009.

8. I've lost the email which contained my registration details. Where can I access this?

A: You can access this information again by contacting the PRC Project managers via email at reading.challenge@deta.qld.gov.au or via telephone 07 3222 2725.

9. Can my child read any book they like during the Challenge?

A: Of course they can! The Premier's Reading Challenge in consultation with Library Services has developed a Guiding Booklist that can be used to help in selecting books, but this should be used as a guide only. The booklists are compiled from titles that have been reviewed by Library Services for suitability for the Prep - 7 curriculum.

10. What do I do when the reading period finishes on Friday 21 August 2009?

A: If at any time participants meet the Challenge and have completed reading 20 books, you should finalise their participation in the Challenge by logging back to the on-line registration page. You do not have to wait till Friday, 21 August to finalise participation.

If you are registered as an individual reader or home educated student, and you have finalised your participation, please send your Reading Record Form and the Individual Reader Cover Sheet to the PRC Database Management Team at PO Box 3 Kelvin Grove BC Q 4059.

11. Who should I contact if I have a technical problem with the on-line registration process?

A: You should contact the PRC Database Management Team via email prc.rego@cpx.com.au or via telephone (07) 3221 1212.

A: You should contact the Premier's Reading Challenge Project Managers, Wilhelmina Rowlings on (07) 3222 2725 or Kim Colwell on (07) 32371781 or by email reading.challenge@deta.qld.gov.au.
