SEQ Schools Project

Seven new schools for south-east Queensland

Seven state schools have been built in high-growth areas of South East Queensland following the awarding of a $1.1 billion dollar contract to the Aspire School consortium which will deliver the SEQ Public Private Partnership (PPP) Schools project.

The Aspire Schools consortium designed, built and will continue to maintain six new primary schools and one new high school in the rapidly-growing Sunshine Coast, Western Corridor, the Gold Coast and Redlands regions. See a map of new schools to be built Adobe PDF document.

The project generated an estimated 2150 new jobs over the four and half year construction period with additional jobs to be created during the 30-year ongoing maintenance period delivered by the consortium.

All seven schools were built in two stages, and they will feature energy efficient measures Microsoft® Word document 1.9Mthat will achieve a four-star Greenstar rating from the Green Building Council of Australia Microsoft® Word document 1.9M. Part of the requirement for achieving a Greenstar 4 Star Rating is to put on public display the Wetlands Management Plan Adobe PDF document 107kfor the Peregian Springs site due to its proximity to adjacent wetlands. In addition, while there is not expected to be a requirement to complete a Wetlands Management Plan for the Bellbird Park and East Coomera site, there are wetlands in the vicinity of both sites. Consequently, the following Wetlands Status Letters for Bellbird Park Adobe PDF document 57kand East Coomera Adobe PDF document 54k are available for reference.

The Aspire Schools consortium will have day-to-day management responsibility for maintenance, cleaning, janitorial and schools officer (grounds-keeping) staff, while these staff will remain employees of the Queensland Government and continue to enjoy coverage under the relevant Awards and Certified Agreements.

Community groups and Parent and Citizens' Associations will also remain integral to each school's community.

Members of the consortium include Leighton Contractors, Leighton Services, Commonwealth Bank, Broad Group with private finance provided by Leighton and Commonwealth Bank entities and National Australia Bank.
