Ethics, Issues and ICT

By Year 2, students understand the role of some ICT in society. They develop and apply ethical, safe and responsible practices when working with ICT in online and stand-alone environments.

By the end of Year 2 students:

Apply social, ethical and safe practices when working with ICT; they:

  • understand safe and responsible ICT practices
  • are aware of ethical and unethical ICT communications including appropriate choice of language in emails
  • understand that the Internet can be a place for sharing material; and recognise that people create information resources and it is not appropriate to copy the work of others
  • recognise the significance of private passwords and use and maintain passwords for access to files and the school network
  • relate stranger danger to online environments and recognise the need to take care in sharing personal information
  • show an understanding of netiquette by using positive social skills and considering others while online
  • comply with school expectations and protocols when using ICT

Reflect on how ICT are used in the community and identify ways they can impact people; they:

  • reflect on individual use of ICT to ensure personal safety and information security

Use ethical, safe and responsible practices when working with ICT

Develop an understanding of safe and responsible ICT practices through discussion and observation of practice.

 

 

Visit Safety Tips for Kids at and Healthy Computing. Contribute ideas or suggestions to create a class poster titled Internet Safety Tips for Kids. Ideas include:

  • don't email a photo of yourself to anyone unless you have checked with mum or dad
  • don't open emails, files or webpages sent from someone who you do not know or trust
  • don't give out your password (except to mum, dad and or a responsible adult)
  • always follow the school rules when using the Internet
  • don't agree to buy something unless you have checked with mum and dad.

Healthy Computing

Acting in role as an expert, present a talk on one of the following:

  • it is not appropriate to copy large amounts of information from a website
  • access to some websites is restricted
  • the importance of logging on, logging off and shutting down the computer
  • why we need to take short breaks when working on the computer.

 

 

Draw diagrams illustrating correct and incorrect posture for working at the computer.

 

 

Follow teacher directions to locate and record the name of the author/creator and the address of a website used during research. List these details as a simple bibliography.

 

 

Use simple procedures to identify ownership of work (for example, record their name on a document or include their name in filename).
