Before you buy

NSSCF assessments required first

Before schools buy ICT, they should wait until NSSCF assessments have been completed.

Assessments will help schools bring their ICT and electrical infrastructure up to speed. Assessments are required as an accountability measure for NSSCF funding as well.

A Regional NSSCF Coordinator has been appointed to each region. Each will work with a small team of technicians to help every Round 1, 2 and 2.1 school with their assessments. They will also prioritise the rollout of computers to schools and begin the data collection component of the assessments.

In most cases, the regional NSSCF coordinators will have already contacted schools to determine the assessment timeline. All should be finished by early 2010.

Also, prepare for 1-to-1 learning

Before buying computers, schools need to think about how their purchases will help them achieve a computer to student ratio of 1 to 1. This ratio is overall goal of the NSSCF.

A 1 to 1 ratio creates an expectation that computers will move from classroom to classroom.

To find out more about preparing for the 1 to 1 ratio and 1-to-1 learning programs, the department has developed a series of 1-to-1 learning practicums. Bookings are now being taken.

Building the vision for and understanding what is involved in leading a technology-rich learning environment is now a priority for all state schools.

In a nutshell

Wait for your ICT assessment.

Prepare for 1 to 1 learning.
