Laptop models
To ensure TAFE teachers continue to gain access to the latest technology, the laptop model rolled out to TAFE institutes is upgraded each financial year.
2008 to 2009: Lenovo R400 and Apple MacBook MB881X/A
2009 to 2010: Hewlett-Packard 6530b and Apple MacBook MC240X/A
This means there are a number of models now being used by TAFE teachers.
PC or Mac?
Because each TAFE institute has its own ICT needs and requirements, they have the option to receive a PC or Apple laptop.
By default, you will receive a PC laptop.
To receive an Apple laptop, your institute's director needs to determine if your TAFE meets the criteria outlined below.
If it does, your institute's director needs to complete the TAFE Apple Mac Business case (PDF, 281k) and submit it to the Computers for Teachers team.Eligibility requirements for receiving an Apple
- Requests for Apple laptops are not matters of individual teacher preference. They need to be made according to the nature of teaching duties and the need for specialised software.
- The teaching positions to which the laptop will be anchored must be permanent and based at the institute, with an FTE of 0.4 or greater.
- The institute currently maintains a fleet of Apple laptops, which comprises at least 10 per cent of the institute's quota of computers, unless a strong special case exists.
