Fixing laptops not under warranty
If a Computers for Teachers laptop suffers non-warranty damage the TAFE institute must undergo the quoted repairs.
Non-warranty repairs are generally the responsibility of the TAFE institute. The TAFE Director will decide if the institute or the teacher should pay for the non-warranty repairs, particularly where damage has been incurred due to negligence or shown to be intentional.
A teacher will not be penalised if their laptop is damaged at home, provided that:
- the laptop was being used in accordance with the TAFE Memorandum of Understanding
- the damage is not malicious or intentional
- there is no negligence or breach of policy involved. For example, if the laptop was given to a family member or child and damage is caused, this is in violation of departmental policy and the teacher will be held liable for the cost of repair.
TAFE institutes are only permitted to request teacher funded replacement laptops if the strict guidelines for requesting teacher funded replacements have been adhered.
