Configuring mobile users
Computers for Teachers laptops are configured so all information is stored locally by default, allowing a user to store application data, internet favourites, desktop icons, documents and email data in the one location.
Configuring a mobile device to store information locally enables a user to maintain constant uninterrupted access to personal information regardless of network connectivity and location.
To ensure a mobile user gains optimal productivity from their laptop, it is important that both the mobile user and the mobile device are configured correctly.
Computers for Teachers mobile devices will be automatically configured when they are initially joined to the domain.
To configure a mobile user, the Service Centre or your Orange Card holder must utilise the Zero Touch Provisioning website (PDF, 77k)
Before configuring a mobile user, there are a number of tasks that should be performed by your school's Orange Card holder or the Service Centre.
- add staff users who have been identified as mobile users to the group: <schoolcode>GG_Mobile Users
- if required, add staff users who have been identified as mobile Outlook users to the group: <schoolcode>GG_Outlook Users
- provision the Active Directory Computer Account for the mobile device to the organisation unit: <schoolcode>_Mobile Staff, <schoolcode>_Computers, <schoolcode>_School Name.
If you are building a Computers for Teachers laptop, the Computer Account will automatically be provisioned to the correct organisation unit. Should the recovery procedure be carried out for the purpose of reconfiguring the laptop for the same teacher, it is not necessary to add the user to the mobile user group. This will happen when the laptop rejoins the domain.
Before the laptop can be joined and rebuilt however, it is necessary for the Orange Card holder or the Service Centre to delete the existing account (PDF, 379k).
