Course pre-test

Once registered, you need to undertake the course pre-test.

The pre-test ensures you have sufficient background knowledge and understanding of ICT to comfortably deal with the terms, strategies and concepts presented in the course.

It's needed because the Orange Card course assumes you already have basic ICT support skills.

The pre-test features 25 multiple choice questions covering:

  • file, folder and folder sharing
  • internet and intranet terms
  • networking
    • basic Client/Server concepts
    • basic LAN/WAN concepts
    • basic TCP/IP troubleshooting
  • printing
    • installation
    • configuration
    • troubleshooting
  • server backup and functions
  • user access
    • basic user account concepts
    • security groups
  • computer viruses
  • Windows XP
    • application installation and configuration
    • configuration
    • drivers
    • troubleshooting.

You are allowed two attempts at the pre-test.

If you are unsuccessful the second time, you will be unable to study the Orange Card course.

If you wish to attempt the pre-test a third time, you need a new endorsement.

Your endorser may be advised of your unsuccessful attempts.

When they approve your re-endorsement, you are allowed two more attempts.

If you don't attempt the pre-test or a module quiz for an extended period, your registration and endorsement may be rescinded.

When a non-departmental worker successfully completes the course pre-test, they will be issued with an invoice for $50 to cover the cost of the course.

The department pays this fee for departmental employees.
