Steps to facilitate a smooth rollout

Webmail

Following extensive testing by school staff in 2010, the department rolled out an easier-to-use webmail to school teachers, administrators and students. All MIS users can access their Webmail via webmail.eq.edu.au.

The new webmail delivers a better email system and online calendar offering:

The contact lists and emails of people who use the existing webmail system, called Communications Express, were migrated, making the switch to using the new webmail easy.

Why it was introduced

The old webmail system was five years old and did not support online collaboration through features such as event and task management, or shared email folders between users.

The new webmail provides an easier to use online interface and many new features.

Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail and Microsoft Entourage users

School staff and students who use Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail and Microsoft Entourage are not affected by the rollout of the new webmail.

However, they are affected by the department's new automatic mail forwarding rules.
