ICT Certificate: work towards
The best way to start is by working with a group of colleagues who are also interested. The support and ideas you will gain collegially are an important part of the process.
First though, congratulations for making the decision to share your professionalism by seeking ICT Certificate accreditation.
The activities outlined below aim to help you reflect on your own planning for teaching and learning. Because you already would be reflecting on your work, undertaking these activities is rather straightforward.
Talk with your principal or curriculum leader
Work with them to help you confirm the suitability of the ICT Certificate to you. Also, carefully read the information available on this website - especially the ICT Certificate indicators.
Choose a pathway
A number of pathways lead you to accreditation.
No matter which pathway you choose, you will need to demonstrate that your pedagogy aligns with the ICT Certificate indicators.
Pathway 1: Regional and district workshops
To find out more, contact your Regional Technology Manager.
Pathway 2: School or cluster
Your school or cluster may decide to work towards the ICT Certificate.
Pathway 3: Intel Teach Program
When you complete this course, you will gain the ICT Certificate and the international Intel Thinking with Technology qualification.
Pathway 4: Independent
If you chose this pathway, you will need to identify a suitable mentor before presenting your evidence to a reviewer. Your mentor will provide you with feedback on your evidence. A mentor can be any willing Digital Pedagogy Licence holder or curriculum leader. If a curriculum leader agrees to mentor you and they do not hold a Digital Pedagogy Licence, they can work in partnership with a licence holder.
Also, education students of partnered Queensland tertiary institutions can receive a university-issued certificate entitling them to ICT Certificate accreditation once they gain employment with Education Queensland.
Share your ideas
Once you work out who else is interested in applying, set aside time with them to share your ideas around Professional Knowledge, Professional Relationships and Professional Values.
Consider your evidence
Identify a unit plan, work program or series of lessons that you have already used or intend to use in the near future.
With your colleagues, examine your work and discuss how you could make it richer through the use of ICT. You might find that it is already ICT-rich.
If it's not, add those ideas you would like to use. Include three to four ICT-focused ideas if they aren't already evident.
Your work here creates the evidence you require to seek ICT Certificate accreditation.
Your ideas need not be complex. Also, you do not have to do more than declare your intent to use these ideas when you implement your work.
The Steps to the ICT Certificate can help you collate your evidence.
Write a reflective statement
In this statement of less than 500 words, you need to review:
- why the ICT in your evidence is good for learning
- the things you need to do to keep your students safe and lawful in the digital world
- how ICT can enhance your professionalism and professional networks.
Also, align your statement to your evidence and ensure it reflects the logic behind your use of ICT.
The Steps to the ICT Certificate can help you write your reflective statement.
Hint!
See our example reflective statement.
Your ideas could involve the use of Learning Objects, Curriculum Exchange resources, other Internet resources, student work samples in Microsoft Publisher or PowerPoint, a copy of an email to an expert, or a screenshot from a Blackboard course you have used. Talk to a Digital Pedagogy Licence holder at your school to work out what is best to include.
If you need some extra help with building your ICT skills, make sure you access the comprehensive range of online Atomic Learning tutorials.
When you have assembled your evidence, you are ready to seek ICT Certificate accreditation.
And when you implement your ICT-rich unit or program, you will already be working towards the Digital Pedagogy Licence.
