ICT Certificates for future educators

A hardworking group of educators has shown they are 'in the know' when it comes to contemporary learning after receiving Education Queensland's ICT Certificate Vouchers.

Marking the end of 2008, 60 University of Sunshine Coast (USC) students were presented with the qualifications which represent the first level of the Smart Classrooms Professional Development Framework.

USC Deputy Vice-Chancellor Greg Hill said the University was incredibly proud of its students and their dedication to preparing for a future in the classroom.

'This is quite an achievement for [the students] and it will no doubt prove to be very valuable to them in the workforce,' says Mr Hill.

'These students now have the skills they need to incorporate ICT into their lessons and match the kids they are teaching.'

The ICT Certificate encourages teachers to use ICT to enhance student's learning experiences.

The voucher obtained by the USC students is redeemable once a graduate is appointed to a state school.

Teachers completing the program, which has three levels, are required to demonstrate their knowledge of ICT through its integration into everyday teaching and learning.

Recent USC Bachelor of Education graduate Judith Hennessy says she was overwhelmed by how much she learnt during the course.

'I really enjoyed completing the course and learnt a lot about ICT and a range of devices in the process,' says Mrs Hennessy.

'I also think it will have a lot to do with me getting my first job as a teacher.'

Current student Daniella Scalova also believed the certificate voucher would give her a helping hand in obtaining her first appointment.

'[The course] was really worthwhile and you are given a great deal of support along the way,' says Miss Scalova.

'I now know how to use ICT to make my lessons interesting.'
