ICT Indigenous Extension Program

Leadership through Technology camp and professional development project

Fifty Years 6 and 7 students from Cape and Torres Strait Island schools who have demonstrated a higher than average level of ICT skills will be invited to attend a week long camp held in a community venue in Term 1, 2008 and then attend a second camp held at Cairns SDE in Term 3, 2008.

The first camp in Term 1 will be followed up during the year with online projects including video guests, live chats and discussion forums, with the final camp being in Term 3.

On returning to their schools, classmates, teachers and school community will share the technological and expert resources accessed and produced through the camp. Camp participants will be ICT leaders in their schools.

One teacher from each of their schools will also attend the camp and participate in the ICT Professional Development workshops with ICT experts from within Education Queensland.

Incorporated into the camp programmes will be physical education and workplace health and safety related activities to demonstrate to the students the importance of keeping a healthy body while working or playing in an ICT environment.
