Smart Classrooms Award winners named

Twelve Queensland state school teachers and technical support staff have been named the recipients of this year's Smart Classrooms Awards.

In simultaneous awards ceremonies on the Gold Coast and in Townsville on Monday, 08 August, the innovative group were presented with their awards by the Associate Director-General, Operations, Dr Richard Eden.

The winners and the highly-commended candidates will be provided with travel either the Gold Coast or Townsville, accommodation, TRS, entry to the Smart Classrooms Awards and eLearning Innovation Expo and two days of specialised Master Classes in Brisbane.

The winners will also receive a $5,000 prize package that allows them to extend their professional development by attending conferences or courses that extend their understanding and practices in ICT in the area of education.

What is it?

The Smart Classrooms Awards is an annual event aimed at recognising teachers who have demonstrated innovation and excellence in their teaching and learning using ICT.

Founded in 2002, the event rewards the achievements of the state's most innovative and engaging teachers - all of whom are committed to their ongoing professional development and learning.

This year for the first time, we will be announcing a bigger pool of short-listed candidates. Both winners and runners-up will be announced at the Awards ceremony in August.

The winners and runners-up will be provided with travel to the Gold Coast, accommodation, TRS, entry to the Smart Classrooms Awards and eLearning Innovation Expo and two days of specialised Master Classes.

Winners will also receive a $5,000 prize package that allows them to extend their professional development by attending conferences or courses that extend their understanding and practices in ICT in the area of education.

General requirements

  • All entrants must hold a Digital Pedagogy Licence or higher, or commit to obtaining one within six months should they win an award*.
  • Applicants must work as a classroom teacher at least three days a week.
  • Entrants must not have been presented with a Smart Classrooms Award previously.
  • All selection criteria must be addressed.
  • Late entries and incomplete nominations will not be processed (unless prior approval is granted).


Judging process

  • A confirmation email will be sent once your application has been received and processed.
  • Applications will be judged by a statewide panel, which includes representatives from education regions, schools and central office.
  • All short-listed candidates will be required to participate in filming activities before the Awards ceremony. Winners will also be required to feature in post-awards promotional material.
