Network Maximisation

Latest News

Network Maximisation recently deployed a new design to cater for schools with 1,000+ computers/printers etc and is actively seeking optimisation solutions for both wired and wireless environments.

Overview

The Network Maximisation Project is one of the four projects under the banner of the Smart Classrooms - ICT Support Services for Schools Program (ISSS).

This project will design and implement a Network Maximisation strategy to position DETA to achieve the best results from the current network environment, ensuring present and future technological initiatives will be able to be delivered. A key outcome of this project is the implementation of the One Network initiative unifying the Admin and Curriculum networks within Schools.

Network Maximisation will address the bandwidth constraints that impact delivery of technology to Education Queensland Schools. Implementing a maximising strategy within the current network environment will ensure the key initiatives of the Smart Classrooms Strategy (One School, School Portal, ISSS, Learning Place, etc) can be delivered to all schools.

What is Network Maximisation?

Network Maximisation is the optimal use of currently available bandwidth provided to state schools for authorised functions and applications.

State schools have accessed the Managed Internet Service since 1997. With the increasing demands for web-based applications, e-learning and new technologies such as web conferencing, there is an increasing need to ensure bandwidth to schools can support their teaching and learning needs.

What is One Network?

The core of the new Managed Operating Environment (MOE V2.0) will be based on the One Network initiative. This initiative will merge the currently independent curriculum and administration IT networks in schools to create one secure, reliable access point to information for teachers and administrators.

This initiative will also focus on connectivity, including bandwidth and wireless technology. One Network will help make ICT integral to learning by ensuring a single entry point to curricular and administrative information for teachers and administrators in schools.

The Network Maximisation project consists of:

  • implementing an approved One Network design
  • providing schools with the ability to analyse and prioritise their ICT network traffic
  • evaluating technologies to provide effective and efficient capacity, utilisation and management of the carriage services delivered to schools
  • centralising the management and support of all approved active equipment in schools
  • integrating a standard proxy solution to provide schools with the ability to manage their internet traffic, including centralised filtering and local site blocking and caching
  • alignment of One Network with the deployment of the new MOE through the Forward Schedule of Change and in coordination with other ICT rolling replacement programs.

Main Objective

The main objective of implementing a Network Maximisation strategy is to position DETA to achieve the best results from the current network environment, ensuring present and future technological initiatives will be able to be delivered.
