Smart Classrooms - Department of Education, Training and the Arts

Sustaining School ICT Assets

Overview

ICT asset management requires the integration of a number of interdependent components, such as financial asset management (which involves the control of asset costs and portfolio investments), technology planning (which involves technology cycles and the cost of ICT service delivery) and ICT operations (which encompasses change, problem and inventory management).

As the Department works with schools to strive for sustainable ICT asset management, an important step will be to clarify responsibilities for maintenance and renewal. Which ICT assets are a school's obligation? Which ICT assets in schools are the Department's responsibility for managing? After answering these questions, we can determine the ICT lifecycle of each asset class, and funding and investment requirements.

Work will continue on determining the applicable policy. This will ensure responsibilities are clarified. After that, we can proceed with linking sustainable asset management to financial implications and the transitioning strategies that may be required.

Main objective

The main objective is to manage more effectively the financial assets of school ICT while also participating in technology planning and ICT activities involved in sustaining school ICT assets.
