Employee groups

The Department's workforce is the largest in the Queensland Government and its composition is diverse, including the school and TAFE workforce and regional and central office staff.

At 30 June 2009, the Department employed 80 082 people, approximately 35% of the employment total for the Queensland Government.

The teaching workforce comprises approximately 36 000 FTEs in 1250 schools across Queensland. The Department also delivers vocational education and training (VET) through 13 TAFE Institutes delivering training from 95 locations across the State.

The Department employs teachers, school leaders, teacher aides, public servants and executive leaders.

The information available under the following employee groups is a cross-section of strategies, policies, standards, programs and initiatives that are applicable to these groups.

School Leadership Programs 2010

The Professional Development Unit is calling for nominations for centrally delivered leadership programs for 2010.

People Matters Program
15-19 March - 5 day residential
7-9 October - recall residential
School investment required: $2,250 plus travel expenses.

Enhancing Leadership for the Future (ELF )
21-24 March - for Aspirants
22-24 March - for Mentors
20-21 September - Spring school vacation residential for aspirants and mentors
School investment required: TRS and $750. No cost for Principals who participate as Mentors.

Achievement Matters
Nominations held over from 2009 with limited new places available.

Nominations close 5pm Friday 20 November 2009.

A program information sheet and nomination forms are available.

The Professional Development Unit will coordinate the nomination process on behalf of the regions.

Places in each of these programs are limited and consideration will be given to ensuring equity in the distribution of participants across the regions.

The final selection of applicants will be decided by the Executive Director (Schools) and the Regional Executive Director.
