The Department is committed to providing high quality professional development to build the professional capabilities of its public sector employees through each phase of their career.
Quality professional development addresses individual needs and aspirations, as well as team, school, work unit and state-wide priorities through alignment with professional capability frameworks.
No 'one size fits all' as far as quality professional development is concerned. Traditionally professional development is associated with events - conferences, workshops, seminars and courses. While these activities provide valuable opportunities to network with colleagues and to learn from experts in a given field, research also shows that professional development which leads to improved performance is often undertaken in the workplace - working in teams with colleagues and focusing on real-life issues and challenges.
