Public Service Training

If you are an AO2-AO4 or OO2-OO6 employee, you may be eligible for support in attaining a recognised qualification.

Under the State Government Departments Certified Agreement 2009, business units are encouraged to support eligible employees to gain a nationally recognised, competency-based qualification from the Public Sector Training Package (PSP04) or other relevant training packages.

This opportunity does not apply to teachers, teacher aides or cleaners.

Benefits of a qualification

The right qualification may provide you with:

recognition of your capabilities
access to a pay increase

However, to be eligible for a pay increase, you must meet all three of the following criteria:

You are at the top pay point of your classification (for example, AO2-8)
You have been at the top pay point of your classification for at least 12 months (or, in the case of permanent part time employees, have spent one calendar year and worked 1200 hours at the maximum pay point)
You have the following relevant qualification:

OO2	Certificate III	$20.00 per fortnight
AO2/OO3	Certificate IV	$41.50 per fortnight
AO3/OO4/OO5	Diploma	$42.80 per fortnight
AO4/OO6	Advanced Diploma	$44.60 per fortnight

You will need to notify your pay office of your qualification. You could fax them a copy of your certificate with a completed Qualifications Advice form available on OnePortal. (DETE employees only).

Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

RPL relates to the knowledge and skills you have already acquired formally, through education and training programs, or informally, through life and work experience.

If you already have knowledge and skills relevant to your qualification, you may apply for recognition of prior learning against units of competency in your course.

However, there will still be a fee for those units you complete through or with RPL.
