Enhancing Leadership for the Future (ELF) Program

The Enhancing Leadership for the Future (ELF) Program supports the vision and reform agenda of state schooling to create quality and innovative public education. School leadership is critical to achieving desired educational outcomes in schools.

The ELF program seeks to enhance school leadership capability and capacity across Education Queensland as articulated in Leadership Matters: Leadership Capabilities for Education Queensland Principals, by recognising and supporting aspiring school leaders.

The ELF Program aims to:

Investment

Schools invest $2000 per aspirant plus potentially 1 or 2 days TRS which may be required for Phase 2 mentor meetings. The TRS need will be dependent on proximity and mode of contact. Other expenses e.g. travel, accommodation and the program are funded by Professional Development Branch.

Program Structure

The semester program is comprised of three main phases:

Phase 1: A four-day residential workshop for aspirants with a focus on leadership capabilities for Education Queensland principals, and the identification of a 'leadership challenge' for implementation in their school or cluster. A two-day residential workshop for mentors with a focus on mentoring capabilities and processes. For one of these days, mentors will work with aspirants as they identify their 'leadership challenges'.

Phase 2: A semester of mentoring with experienced principals supporting aspirants as they develop, implement and evaluate a 'leadership challenge', and engage with online modules that align with the Leadership Matters framework;

Phase 3: A two-day residential follow-up workshop for aspirants as they review and present their 'leadership challenges', celebrate achievements and plan for further development - mentors will join aspirants on the first day.

Current Status:

Participation as an aspirant or mentor in this program is through nomination by the Regional Executive Directors and Executive Directors (Schools), and selection by a State process.

Each program will consist of 30 aspirants and 30 mentors with mentors having the option to continue to support aspirants across several programs.
