Principals' Induction Program

Target employee group: Newly appointed, first-time Principals

Purpose:

To induct newly appointed first-time Principals to their new role. Two workshops will be run each semester - one for Bands 5-6 and one for Bands 7-11.

Program Outcomes:

The program seeks to:

reinforce Education Queensland as a performance-driven learning organisation whose staff are committed to achieving excellent education outcomes for all Queensland students;
develop a clear understanding of the principal's crucial leadership role and the skills required to deliver on performance;
enable improved capability in the key accountabilities of governance and educational leadership;
increase understanding of the importance of continued learning and linking to learning networks so that innovative practice may be developed and shared;
increase understanding of the Leadership Matters framework - 'Leadership Capabilities for Education Queensland Principals'.

The program links to the key leadership capabilities as outlined in the framework 'Leadership Matters' and focuses on four elements of the 'balanced scorecard'. These being:

accountability and performance
curriculum
building workforce capability through professional development
stakeholder relationships.

Remaining dates for 2008 are:

Semester 2
Bands 5 and 6: 11 - 12 September
Bands 7 to 11: 15 - 16 October

Dates for 2009 are:

Semester 1
Bands 5 and 6: 2 - 3 April
Bands 7 to 11: 14 - 15 May

Semester 2
Bands 5 and 6: 27 - 28 August
Bands 7 to 11: 10 - 11 September
