Science Operations Officers (SOO) Training

Science Operations Officers contribute to the school's Science department and help ensure teachers are able to teach and students are able to learn in environments that are safe and appropriately resourced.

Science Operations Officers work with teachers in the planning and preparation of practical lessons and help enrich the experiences of students in laboratory work and on field trips.

Science Operations Officers recognise the importance of training and professional development to assist both their career development and the implementation of effective science education in Queensland state secondary schools and colleges.

Science Operations Officers - Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques

A professional development pathway is available for Science Operations Officers.

The MSL 40109 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques is a nationally accredited qualification offering a range of elective units which allow staff to develop and/or build on skills and knowledge to support their school's science curriculum from a laboratory preparation perspective.

Registered training organisations licensed to offer this program include Central Queensland University and TAFE Queensland Brisbane External Link.

Please note that MSL 40109 is due to expire and the new training package code is MSL 40116.

Science Operations Officers may choose to continue on to Diploma level after their Certificate IV studies. Funding subsidies may be available.
