Existing Worker Traineeship
The 2008 Federal Budget discontinued current Existing Worker Traineeship funding to state and territory government departments, parliaments or agencies from 1 July 2008.
How does this affect you?
- If you are currently enrolled in a Certificate III or Certificate IV course as an Existing Worker Trainee, you are not affected.
- If you were enrolled as an Existing Worker Trainee prior to the change, your employer will receive full incentives (up to $4000).
- Enrolments in traineeship courses continue to be accepted after 30 June 2008; however, federal funding is no longer available to support state and territory government department or agency employers and employees.
- If you enrol after 30 June, you will need to negotiate funding with your school/business unit and you may need to self-fund or co-contribute to finance your Certificate III or Certificate IV qualification.
- Diplomas in areas of skills shortages e.g. Laboratory Operations have also been supported by Federal funding. The same arrangements will apply to these courses.
