Prep teacher aide boost announced for 2013

Prep teacher aide boost announced for 2013

The Queensland Government will boost teacher aide resources in 600 Queensland state school Prep classes.

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman and Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek have announced a $54 million program External Link that will enable the equivalent of a full-time teacher aide in each Prep classroom in 150 Prep classes each year from 2013, growing over four years.

In 2013 a total of 154 Prep classes in 107 schools (full list below) will receive additional teacher aide hours from the start of the new school year. The Prep classes were chosen in areas of greatest need to support schools in low socio-economic and rural and remote communities.

Prep enrolments at the start of the 2013 school year will determine the exact allocation of teacher aide hours to the selected schools.

More personalised attention from Prep teachers will allow students to better progress their reading, writing and social skills at a formative time in their development.

Quality early childhood education has lasting positive impacts on a child's health, learning and behaviour.
