About Pathways

The initiative is managed by the Department of Education and Training on behalf of the Professional Development Pathways Committee (PDPC). The committee, comprising of departmental and Higher Education Institutions representatives, oversees the framework. The committee meets regularly to review and revise this initiative.

Previously, individuals have negotiated their own RPL (Recognition for Prior Learning) with Higher Education Institutions when enrolling in courses. Through Professional Development Pathways, the RPL has already been negotiated between the Department and the nine participating Queensland Higher Education Institutions.

The Department provides opportunites for school leaders and teachers to access key identified professional development and the option of undertaking an assessment, which is then submitted to one of the participating Higher Education Institutions for marking.

The optional assessment may be undertaken at the same time as the professional development course, or after the course is completed. The option to complete and submit the assessment for marking must be exercised within six months of completing the professional development course.

Successful completion of one of the professional development programs, along with the successful completion of the optional assessment, provides credit equivalent to one subject of a Masters Degree or Graduate Certificate program at any of the nine participating Higher Education Institutions. The credit may be applied to an appropriate prostgraudate qualification as determined by each of the Higher Education Institutions.

Successful participants will receive a voucher for academic credit that will be recognised by any of the participating Higher Education Institutions for one of their approved courses. To activate the academic credit voucher, participants will need to be enrolled in one of the participarting Higher Education Institutions nominated postgraduate programs. The currency of the voucher differs depending on the discipline area. For example, the changing nature of knowledge in ICT means that the voucher for relevant programs must be activated within 3 years. For most other programs, the voucher remains valid for 5 years.
