Restart Teaching

The department has developed the Restart Teaching program for fully registered teachers who:

• are returning to teach in an Education Queensland state school
• have a Returning to Teaching in School (RTT) condition placed against their registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).

Restart Teaching is a QCT accredited RTT program.

Program content

Restart Teaching is a 30-hour, professional development program, comprising four online modules.

• Module 1: Resetting the scene
• Module 2: Identifying changes in legislation and policy
• Module 3: Teaching and learning in the contemporary classroom
• Module 4: Focusing on the contemporary learner

The program will help returning teachers understand the current curriculum frameworks, teaching and learning practices, and legislative and legal responsibilities that are central to their work with students in contemporary school settings.

The program may also benefit teachers who don't have the RTT condition, but who are interested in completing the program for professional development purposes.

Participants will work with an experienced online facilitator to complete the program.

Program requirements

To receive a certificate of completion, all mandatory activities must be completed within the 13 week duration of the course.

The mandatory activities include:

• completing four reflection workbooks
• developing a sequence of lessons
• participating in two OneChannel web conference sessions.

Program completion

On completion of the Restart Teaching program, participants will be issued:

• a certificate of completion which they will need to present to the Queensland College of Teachers to have their RTT condition removed
• a Smart Classrooms ICT Certificate.

Program cost

The program cost is $440 (including GST). An email will be sent to successful applicants outlining payment options.

Expressions of interest

All Education Queensland state school teachers with the RTT condition against their registration are encouraged to express their interest for future intakes via the registration form.

Teachers who are interested in completing the Restart Teaching program for professional development purposes are also encouraged to express their interest in the next program via the registration form.

The next intake will begin on Monday 5 August 2013.

We will email applicants regarding their application within two weeks of their registering.
