Supervising Teacher

Supervising teachers support preservice teachers in meeting the requirements of professional experience, including meeting the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers Adobe PDF document External Link at the graduate career stage.

In collaboration with colleagues, effective supervising teachers foster a culture where preservice teachers are engaged in meaningful conversations regarding their impact on student learning and their own progress, successes and challenges to encourage reflection and collaboration.

The skills needed to be an effective professional experience supervising teacher are related to those required for successful classroom teaching including coaching, assessment, professional communication and providing feedback based on evidence.

These skills may require development, and supervising teachers may need opportunities to learn to perform their roles well.

How to become a supervising teacher

Are you an exemplary classroom teacher who has demonstrated a positive impact on student learning? Do you have the capacity and ability to mentor an adult preservice teacher? You require a high level of skills in observation, providing feedback, holding professional conversations and working collaboratively.

Supervising Preservice Teachers is an interactive and self-directed online professional learning program aimed at enhancing teachers' knowledge, skills and confidence to effectively supervise preservice teachers.
