The Beachmere State School Schoolwide pedagogy states the importance of a relevant, living curriculum framework based on quality programs that are current and innovative. In aligning classroom practice with this Schoolwide Pedagogy (SWP) we have developed a curriculum initiative that is proactive in curriculum renewal and contextual to our site.
Through our journey in IDEAS we have focussed on a Curriculum Initiative built on the philosophy and practice of Outcomes Based Education.Concepts and skills are scaffolded throughout the journey of P-7 in all KLAs and challenged against our school vision and articulated Schoolwide Pedagogy. We are using the new HPE, Science and SOSE curriculums as well as draft Arts and IT documents to produce integrated units of work. To develop and extend the professional expertise of teachers, release time to plan in year level groups with the support of a 'curriculum co-ordinator' has been available. The pedagogical construct that student potential is recognised through the promotion of positive partnerships is evidenced in participation of specialist and support teachers in planning.
All units include a showcase activity where the wider school community is invited to share what has been learned in the classroom throughout the term. These units provide real life experiences coupled with the intergration of IT which foster a thirst for knowledge and encourage lifelong learning, as stated in our SWP. There has been challenge in developing learning experiences which rigorously engage our Vision and Schoolwide Pedagogy, particular and relevant to our community of students - and great satisfaction for our work as teachers at Beachmere State School.
