Success and failure comes in many forms. All too often we allow the smallest of setbacks to derail us. We look out for the big successes, but often miss the little ones along the way. We, at Urangan Point, could have easily thrown the towel in after the second change of Principal, yet alone the fourth since 1999. And yet it only takes one staff member to keep the dream alive. Our success pivots around the unswerving effort and dogged persistence of our IDEAS facilitator and librarian, Mark.
Mark, with the IDEAS School Team, believe... 'that the IDEAS journey at our school has created an embryonic culture of ownership, sharing, and risk-taking within the school. IDEAS has not been a top-down process at Urangan Point SS. It has been a collaborative progression towards achieving the best for the students, the staff and the entire school community'.
Urangan Point's principal, Col Shields has been very prominent in taking a 'back seat' in the process to date. His willingness to be an active participant from the floor has been inspirational and a fine example of cooperation across the teaching/administration continuum. Col remains... 'astounded by the level of spontaneous staffroom discussion IDEAS has generated'.
The IDEAS Team continues to 'foment' guided discussion and spirited dialogue about the nature of pedagogy. 'Our school vision will be established by the middle of next term.
