Induction resources

The department has an obligation to provide induction to all employees under the Public Service Act 2008, and the Public Service Commission Directive 21/10 - Employee Performance Management.

Induction is for all employees at all career junctures, at the organisational, regional and local levels.

The DET approach to induction is characterised by three principles:

consistency
context
connectedness.

What resources are being developed to support induction?

Resources are being developed to support the induction of employees with diverse needs in a range of workplace contexts. These include:

induction guidelines for schools, TAFE institutes, regional and central offices
a new induction website
various OneChannel series
online modules, programs and courses
professional community and discussion lists
guidelines for mentoring and coaching programs
support for regional conferences and workshops
surveys for continued evaluation and quality assurance.

Who are these resources for?

These resources are for all employees and will assist leaders, managers and supervisors to develop comprehensive induction programs for their school, TAFE or local business unit.

When will these resources be avaliable?

Most of the resources are currently in development and will be launched in Semester 2 2012.

A OneChannel series for beginning teachers will be piloted in Term 1 2012. The series will give beginning teachers access to live and on-demand sessions via web conferencing on induction topics including:

cultural awareness
behaviour management
Code of Conduct
differentiation.

Where will these resources be located?

DET Induction resources will be available on the DET Induction website, through the Learning Place and applications such as OneChannel.

What resources are currently available?

A number of online resources are available for DET employees. These include:

the DET Induction Program for Public Sector Employees
Principals' Induction website(DET employees only)
Beginning teacher induction toolkit.
