Leadership Matters (new window) 84k
is an exciting new leadership framework for Education Queensland principals that will guide all leadership development activity.
Five related leadership capabilities form the basis of Leadership Matters (new window) 84k
. They are aimed at principals and aspiring leaders. The Educational, Personal, Relational, Intellectual and Organisational leadership capabilities combine to form a shared understanding of outstanding leadership of Queensland state schools. Highly effective school leaders strive to achieve mastery in each capability area.
After a comprehensive development and consultation phase spanning twelve months, led by the Deputy Director-General, Education Queensland, Jenny Cranston, Leadership Matters was developed.
This new framework represents a synthesis of current research and literature as well as the views of Education Queensland principals of what it means to be a successful leader in Education Queensland schools.
Extensive research was provided by local Queensland universities on current themes and trends in educational leadership that informed the development of Leadership Matters. They prepared a technical paper (new window) 881k
reporting their findings.
A thorough consultation process was then undertaken over two months inviting the views of every Education Queensland principal to provide input into the new framework directly, through their principals' associations and through the Queensland Teachers' Union.
