On the Same Page Professional Development Modules

Following on from the release of the P-12 Curriculum Framework for Queensland State Schools and associated guidelines, a series of On the Same Page professional development workshops for school and curriculum leaders were provided in fourteen locations across the state. These professional development workshops were conducted in Term 4 2008 and were the culminating activity of the On the Same Page project, a collaborative project between Teaching and Learning Branch and Student Services Branch.

This collaborative project involved the development of four On the Same Page professional development modules to support school and curriculum leaders in responding to the requirements and expectations of the P-12 Curriculum Framework for Queensland State Schools and the Curriculum Guidelines: Students with Disabilities.

The On the Same Page professional development modules highlight the legislative and policy influences on curriculum reform, renewal and leadership in the current context, as well as provide evidence informed educational and school approaches to building inclusive education practices for all students, including students with disabilities.

The modules are a valuable professional development resource for all schools and curriculum leaders. They can be used as stand alone professional development activities, or be used by presenters as a resource to develop learning experiences for staff that cater to their local context, audience and purpose of the professional development activity.

Each module has a number of resources that include:

a power point presentation
accompanying presenter notes, and
references, resources and activities to support the key concepts and messages of the modules.

Module 1: Why Plan?

relevant legislation and education policy relating to students with disabilities
contemporary context for curriculum planning, learning, teaching and school improvement.

Module 2: How do we plan?

The aim of this module (new window) 1.2M and presenter notes (new window) 1.8M is to discuss:

indicators of inclusive practices in schools and classrooms
Queensland Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting (QCAR)
spotlight on educational approaches
guided template - unit planning.

Module 3: What does good planning look like?

The aim of this module (new window) 879k and presenter notes (new window) 1.5M is to highlight using a sample unit plan:

planning, learning & assessment for diverse learning needs
curriculum requirements of schools
different ways of developing adjustments for learning and assessment
the importance of feedback to learning.

Module 4: How do we align curriculum intent, pedagogy, assessment and reporting?

The aim of this module (new window) 1.0M and presenter notes (new window) 1.8M is to discuss:

elements of an inclusive curriculum
strategies used by effective teachers
developing pedagogy to support students with diverse learning needs
principles of effective and authentic assessment.
