Definitions

Position/role description

An official document that describes a specific role at a particular classification level in a particular work environment. It provides an overview of tasks expected to be completed by the incumbent and the skills and capabilities required by the person hired to undertake the role.

Professional development entitlements

Professional development to facilitate agreed outcomes is specified in certified agreements. Where a certified agreement contains such a clause, the employee is entitled to access the specified professional development when all required criteria are met. An example is Part 6.2.d of the Teacher Aide Certified Agreement 2008:

Teacher aides shall be given the opportunity to access Behaviour Management Training and information consistent with their role in a Supportive Behaviour Management environment.

Further examples include Part 17.1-2 of the Teachers' Certified Agreement 2006:

17.1 The parties are committed to the implementation of a comprehensive professional development and training agenda for teaching staff including the involvement of teachers in an annual program of professional development and training. This may comprise activities scheduled for pupil-free days, programs during rostered duty time (with appropriate relief arrangements) and activities voluntary taken outside rostered duty time.

17.2 The parties are also committed to the implementation of a comprehensive professional development and training agenda for Principals and Deputy Principals.

Cleaners' Certified Agreement 2009 Part 6.1.7:

The Department and the Union recognise the mutual benefits of implementing a competency-based training program for cleaners. As such, the parties are committed to providing access to training in Certificates II and III Asset Maintenance (Cleaning Operations). These courses are aligned to national competency standards for the cleaning industry.

Professional development plan

Professional development of staff is addressed in annual business planning processes, taking into consideration systemic and workplace priorities, technological changes, workplace deliverables, funding allocations and individual needs

Reasonable Adjustment

Adjustments are made to a position, an employment practice, the workplace or work-related environment to ensure equal opportunity for people with a disability.

School-based Classified Officer

Head of Department, Head of Curriculum, Head of Special Education Services, Deputy Principal, Principal, Executive Principal.

Systemic priorities

Systemic priorities are addressed in the Department of Education and Training Strategic Plan

Team Leader

Supervisor, manager, principal, director, executive director schools improvement, regional director, or officer with responsibility to undertake performance conversations with the employee.

Tertiary credit

A student is credited with certain units of study required in a higher education program through recognition of alignment between the program and professional development activities undertaken through the workplace, as a result fast-tracking completion of the program.

Workplace

State school, state high school, college, academy, school of distance education, outdoor education centre, institute of TAFE, district, regional and central office business units. A workplace is any location where employees undertake work activities.

Workplace operational plans

Business plans and school/institute planning documents setting out goals, deliverables and accountabilities.
