Getting started with action research
Action research can begin at any point in the cycle, but usually emerges
from a particular concern and a desire to take action to improve the situation.
In a school community, a number of people may recognise a cluster of linked
issues or problems for which there is shared concern.

As action research is being set up, consider the practical things that will
be important, such as
- time for meeting and planning
- effective data gathering and recording methods
- getting a variety of stakeholders involved
- getting outside expertise when it's needed
Like any new process, action research may not be easy at first, so build
in support for the work by
- establishing a realistic timeline
- arranging work-in-progress discussions
- learning from experience over time
- recording and sharing successes and frustrations
- celebrating achievements as they arise
