Education Adjustment Program (EAP) >

The Development of the Education Adjustment Program

What led to the change

In March 2002, Anna Bligh MP, Minister for Education and Minister for the Arts, established The Taskforce on Inclusive Education (Students with Disabilities). (new window) 85k Adobe PDF document The Taskforce's purpose was to provide advice on how to make the schooling system more inclusive for students at educational risk, in particular students with disabilities and learning difficulties.

The Taskforce undertook consultation with teachers, parents/caregivers, students, administrators, unions, universities, disability groups and their advocates, and other government departments such as Queensland Health, Disability Services Queensland and the Department of Families.

The Education Adjustment Program is the product of some of the recommendations made by the Taskforce.

How the transition has occurred

The time line for transition to the Education Adjustment Program (EAP) was three years, from 2005 to the end of 2007. EAP has replaced the ascertainment process. In late 2004 trials and evaluation of the new process occurred. In 2005, schools started implementing the new process of recording the education adjustments being made to assist students with disabilities in accessing curriculum, achieving curriculum outcomes and participating in school life.
